Chocolate Salami

Chocolate Salami

This is one of the first deserts I’ve learned to prepare. I know, it’s simple and I believe that most of you have their own version, but I like this one very much as I got it from my grandma. I usually remember this recipe at this time of year and today I’ve been thinking how it’s never been published on this blog even though photos have been sitting in a draft for years :) Anyway, it uses honey cereals, a local brand from Serbia, but you can use Kellogg’s Honey pops. Any cereal of this kind will work fine in this recipe. Even corn flakes, although, I think it’s crumblier when you make it with corn flakes.

Chocolate Salami

Chocolate Salami

100 g sesame seeds
100 g dark chocolate
2,5 Tbsp sugar
1 Tbsp water
2,5 Tbsp honey
100 g walnuts
50 g honey cereals
125 g butter

Toast sesame on a non stick pan with no grease added. In a small pot melt water and sugar into caramel (thick syrup is fine), add honey, softened butter and pieces of chocolate. Cook on low heat, stirring continuoulsy, until everything melts. Remove from the heat and stir in cereals, chopped walnuts and sesame. After it cools down shape into salami and wrap into baking paper like a bonbon (or in aluminum foil). Leave in the fridge overnight.

My mom was making this salami always for Christmas. It was called Tlacenka (headcheese) I always loved it. She made it with baby piskoty (vanilla waffers) and vegetable shortening. I will make it this year. Thank you for posting it, you reminded me of home , the aroma of rum and chocolate.
