Pork Dumplings

400 g ground pork
1 onion, finely diced
3 garlic cloves, pressed
1 Tbsp grated fresh ginger root
1 tsp honey (or brown sugar)
2 Tbsp dark soy sauce
1/2 tsp turmeric powder
smooth dough made with 375 g flour + 160 ml water (more or less, just make a smooth and not too sticky dough) or wonton wrappers

In a large bowl, combine all the filling ingredients and stir until well mixed. Place filling onto each wonton skin and fold it into desired shape.

Line bottom of a bamboo steamer with baking paper paper (or a Chinese cabbage leaf). Place dumplings on it and put steamer into a wok or a pot. The wok should be filled with water just below the bottom of the steamer.

Steam covered for about 6-10 minutes. Serve immediately.

I’m really impressed! You made your own wonton wrappers? A friend from Singapore taught me how to make these. We used to have a real manufacture going on in our college kitchen! 4 or 5 people just rolling and chatting and laughing. :) She said there was a popular belief in China that you have to seal the wontons properly, so the filling does not fall out, to ensure your prosperity in life….
