Sweet Braid
For the dough:
300 g flour
1 sachet (7 g) dry yeast
30 g sugar
a pinch of salt
160 g luke warm water
45 g melted butter
For the filling:
40 g dark chocolate
jam of your choice
20 g chopped walnuts
10 g raisins
3 tsp honey
some grated lemon zest
powdered sugar for dusting
Knead all of the dough ingredients into smooth dough. Divide into 3 equal parts and leave covered to proof for an hour.
Flatten each piece of the dough into long strip. Spread jam over the first, place chopped chocolate over the second and spread a mixture of raisins, lemon zest, walnuts and honey over the third. Roll each piece so that the fillings are inside. Create a braid with them and leave for another 60-90 minutes to rise once more.
Bake in a preheated oven on 180° for about 40-50 minutes. Line baking pan with baking paper because the fillings might leak. Dust with powdered sugar before serving.
Note: I am sending this to Susan for this week’s YeastSpotting.
