Peach & Poppy Seed Jam

Peach & Poppy Seed Jam

I am hosting this week’s Weekend Herb Blogging event created by Kalyn of Kalyn’s Kitchen. If you’d like to join, check out the rules and send me your entries by 3:00 Sunday, 17th of August, Utah time. Sooo, on to my entry…

Peach & Poppy Seed Jam

800 g peaches (fruit weight after peeling and pitting)
200 g sugar
2 Tbsp rum
1 Tbsp lemon juice
1 Tbsp poppy seeds
a pinch of ground cinnamon

Puree peaches in blender. Place in a pot with the rest of ingredients. Bring to boil, reduce heat and then simmer until you achieve desired thickness.

Fry poppy seeds on a non stick pan for about 2 minutes. Stir them into finished jam, just before pouring it into jars.

Preparing the jars: Wash jars thoroughly, and wipe them. Place them (without the lids) in the oven and turn heat to 50°C. Keep them there until they heat up.

Pouring the jam into jars: Place jars directly from the oven, while they’re still hot, on a wooden surface, a cutting board for example. This is necessary to prevent glass from braking from heat. Pour one spoon of jam into each jar and continue while you ran out of it. When you finish, return jars into preheated oven on 50°C, turn of the oven, and leave the jars inside until jam cools down completely. Now you can put the lids on. This amount is enough for 2 small jars.

You have such interesting uses of poppy seeds. I haven’t worked with poppy seeds before, but that’s something I’ve been wanting to remedy. I’ll be sure to look through your blog for great ideas.

Yum! I like your idea of using poppyseeds in jam. It almost reminds me of passionfruit jam.

I really want to make jam this year, I haven’t tried it before. Your peach and poppy seed jam looks wonderful. You don’t have to peel the peaches? That makes life a little easier!

  • Marija August 19, 2008 5:16 am

Natashya, sorry, you do have to peel the peaches, I forgot to mention. I’ll make the correction…
